In the letter, the creditor will threaten to take court legal action if the debtor fails to clear the bills after a certain period of time. However, if you are a lender and want to write a debt recovery letter, be careful not to harass the debtor. For instance, avoid using abusive words which could hurt the borrower. Bare in mind that although you have the right to demand your money, the borrower on the other hand has the right to take court action if you harass him/her and, end up being charged and loose more money. In case you receive such a letter, don’t ignore. Instead, read it clearly and check whether there are any mistakes made in the balance statement.
If you are in a better situation, contact your lender personally and negotiate on how you are going to repay the bills. Many creditors will accept your request since in the first place, court proceedings are very expensive and also takes a long time before the case is finalized.
